Coast’s biggest coastal project underway

Gold Coast launched a project of an artificial reef with the main mission of promote a long term increase in sand along vulnerable sections of Palm Beach, and this will provide a protective buffer from erosion. The artificial reef will also consolidate a new surf break for surfers.

In four years this surf club has grown from a few coastal kids trying to get into the water into a top rated tag team outfit ready to take on the world. The club uses surfing as a tool to open the minds of the youth.

The city of Montañita and the Mingas organisation for the sea have held workshops focused on looking after the beaches in Ecuador. Students from the state university of Quevedo participated in the workshops. This project aims to educate the community on the amount of rubbish that is found on beaches in Ecuador and generate a change of awareness in which we understand how the pollution of our beaches affect so that we take responsibility for this problem.

The 1st European adapted Surfing Championship will take place in Viana do Castelo. This championship could be decisive for the sport becoming Paralympic. Among the confirmed nations are France, Germany, Portugal, Italy and Spain, and the elements of the last three countries will be staying in the Surfing Viana High Performance Surf Center (HPC).

Surfing Taranaki is riding the crest of a wave with the opening of its new HQ at Fitzroy Beach

Surfing Taranaki HQ gets springboard to take the sport to the next level. Surfing Taranaki bought the building in 2015 for $1 and leased the land from the New Plymouth District Council and in 2016 launched a Sport funder campaign to raise the money required to turn it into the one stop base to help nurture the region's next generation in the sport.

The Easter Masters wrapped up on Fitzroy Beach in New Plymouth. The surfers came from all over the North Island to compete, and their ages ranged from 35 to nearly 79 years old. Masters Surfing is more about catching up with your mates than winning - although there's always one or two who take it seriously.

A dismountable surf board has won the 2nd Surf Board Innovation Competition

The second edition of the surf board Innovation Competition, organised by San Sebastian City Council and its San Sebastian Surf City Cluster has included the participation of more than 100 students from 3 universities, who entered 20 projects in the competition.

Groundsweel project brings to Huanchaco women the possibility of become surfers. At the beginning there were only 4 local girls surfing. Now there are more than 50 and growing. The Groundswell Casita Club will be open soon.
